The Assault
Saturday, December 24, 1994. At Algiers airport, four GIA terrorists seize an Air France A300 Airbus. The Airbus, which is its route to Paris, is carrying 227 passengers. Nobody knows for certain what the terrorists' aims are; all that is known is that they are armed and ruthless. They demand the release of their "brothers in arms" and immediate take-off of the aircraft. The plane is ultimately allowed to depart after protracted and stressful talks between the French and Algerian governments. Three central characters drive the action: a GIGN member, Carole Jeanton, an ambitious technocrat eager to do anything to profit personally from the events, and Yahia Abdallah, a determined jihadist who grew up in Algiers' slums and was being manipulated by an obscure GIA emissary, Ali Touchent.
