He might have been successful if not for three American friends who didn't give in to fear. One was a college student, another was a fan of martial arts and an airman first class in the U.S. Air Force, and the third was a member of the Oregon National Guard. All three friends were brave when the gunman came out of a bathroom armed and ready to kill.
