Sweeney, "The Character King," an aging local standup comic, is offered the opportunity to appear on a national TV show based in Los Angeles. However, Sweeney must remove all references to Boston from his act, with the most notable exception being the portrayal of his colorful Boston "characters," who have become a cornerstone of his home-field success in recent years. Sweeney makes the difficult decision to discontinue his portrayal of the characters. However, much to his dismay, the figures "come-to-life" and seek retribution, attempting to assassinate Sweeney.
