Surge
It is a feature documentary about the unprecedented number of first-time female candidates who ran, won and upended politics during the historic 2018 midterm elections. SURGE follows three candidates in Texas, Indiana, and Illinois who were each attempting to turn their red districts blue, including Lauren Underwood, the youngest black woman ever elected to Congress and the youngest black woman ever elected to the Senate. In addition to being a registered nurse and a public health expert, Lauren is a freshman congresswoman who is now on the front lines of the struggle for relief from COVID-19.
