Shakedown
With Howard Duff's portrayal of Jack Early, "Shakedown" depicts a photographer who will stop at nothing in his quest for success. A prominent newspaper hires him on the basis of his sheer persistence, and it's not long until Nick Palmer (Brian Donlevy) lets him get a picture of him for the newspaper's front page. Palmer takes Early under his wing and sets him up against another criminal leader, Colton (Lawrence Tierney). However, Early decides to bite the hand that feeds him. Photographs are used to coerce Colton into supplying him with constant income while he flirts on the side with Palmer's wife and flirts with the photo editor of the newspaper where he works.
