Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors

Ivan meets Marichka, the daughter of his father's assassin, in a Carpathian village. When tragedy strikes, he grieves for months before resuming his colorful life and marrying Palagna. She wants kids, but he can't get his mind off of his ex-girlfriend. Palagna tries sorcery to reclaim his attention, but he falls under the sorcerer's control in the process, humiliating Ivan in public, who then confronts the sorcerer. The bustling rhythms of village life, labor and holidays, the pageantry and festivity of weddings and funerals, the changing seasons, and nature's beauty all contribute to Ivan's tragedy being proportioned.
