During World War II, a Brazilian Expeditionary Force - FEB - mines weeping platoon is stricken by a panic-attack that causes them to flee aimlessly right in the heart of 'no man's land.' This takes place in Italy. Looking up the Mountain. In a desperate state from the cold and hunger, the unprepared men are forced to choose between going before a military court or penetrating enemy lines farther. After a tense conversation, they come to the conclusion that the only way to save face with the Brazilian Army is to undertake an audacious military mission, which is to defuse the most dreaded minefield in Italy. They end up encountering two additional deserters on their way there: a repentant Italian soldier who is seeking to join the Partigianos, and a German general who is just plain tired of the war. The soldiers are going to execute a job that had been thought to be impossible until they received unexpected assistance from their former adversary.
