The film had a limited theatrical release between September 24 and September 28, 2008, in more than 500 theaters in the United States and Canada equipped with high definition digital projection systems. The footage from the September 7 concert, as well as material from a day of shooting on August 20, was used to put together the film. A reprise of "Seasons of Love" including both the final cast and cast members from previous productions, including members of the original Broadway cast, follows the conclusion of the show itself.
