Norman Bates is apparently rehabiliated for the second time after being released from the mental hospital where he was placed at the end of Psycho III. Norman is now married to Connie, a young nurse, and they are expecting their first child. Norman, on the other hand, is concerned that his mental illness will be passed down to the child. Meanwhile, Fran Ambrose is a radio talk show host who is discussing matricide with Dr. Richmond, Norman's former psychologist, on her show. Norman calls the radio station and tells his story under the alias "Ed."
