Cyd Loughlin, a high school athlete who lives in South Carolina with her clinically depressed father, has a constant desire to flee the state and start over somewhere else. Cyd seizes the opportunity with both hands when her famous aunt, the novelist Miranda Ruth, offers to take care of her for a few weeks during the summer.
