Suzanne Vale, a substance-addicted Hollywood actress, is on the mend. Her film company insists that she live with her mother Doris Mann, herself a former star and now a champion drinker, as a condition of continuing to employ her. This is bad news for Suzanne, who has spent years trying to get out of her mother's shadow and finds her mother still treats her like a child. Despite these issues, as well as others related to the men in her life, Suzanne begins to see the lighter side of her situation, and it also occurs to her that mothers, like daughters, have mothers.
