April Burns is a quirky and rebellious young woman who lives in a low-rent New York City apartment with her lover, far from her emotionally distant family. When she learns that her mother has a deadly form of breast cancer, she invites the family to Thanksgiving dinner at her house. April, an unskilled cook, stumbles into kitchen difficulty and has to call a neighbor for assistance while her father fights to get her family into the city.
