Murmur of the Heart
This loosely paced coming-of-age story chronicles the life of 15-year-old Laurent Chevalier as he navigates adolescence in France during the 1950s. Chevalier develops scarlet fever after engaging in his first sexual encounter with a prostitute and avoiding the lips of a priest. Chevalier and his overprotective and unfaithful mother are placed in a sanatorium after Chevalier develops a heart murmur due to a fever.
