Mr. Jones

A Welsh journalist named Gareth Jones takes a train from Moscow to Kharkov in the Ukraine in March 1933, and he talks about it. A small station is where he gets off the train and walks through the country to see for himself what a famine looks like. Everyone he meets is a henchman of the Soviet secret service, and every time he goes, they try to keep the disaster from getting out to the public. This policy is like mass murder because it forces people to collect their land. People are miserable and have lost their land. Jones is helped by Ada Brooks, a New York Times reporter, who helps him spread the shocking news in the West. This puts his powerful rival, Walter Duranty, firmly in his place.
