Mayerling
Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria and his father, Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, have disagreements on the implementation of progressive plans for their kingdom. Rudolf quickly realizes he was born at the wrong moment in a nation that does not recognize the need for social transformation. The Prince of Wales, who eventually became King Edward VII of the United Kingdom, provides comedic relief. Rudolf escapes his loveless marriage to Princess Stéphanie by selecting Baroness Maria Vetsera as his mistress. Their unexpected death at the royal family's hunting lodge, Mayerling, is shrouded in mystery.
