Rei Kiriyama (Ryunosuke Kamiki) is a shogi (Japanese chess) player who is seventeen years old. He made his professional shogi debut in middle school. He lives alone in Tokyo following the death of his parents and younger sister in a traffic accident when he was a child. Rei Kiriyama meets his neighbors' three sisters one day. Akari, Hinata, and Momo Kawamoto are the three sisters. This is his first encounter with someone from outside the shogi community in several years. Rei Kiriyama experiences joy when she shares meals with the Kawamoto family. As Rei Kiriyama progresses in his shogi career, his contacts with his neighbors enable him to develop both as a shogi player and a person.
