Milan, a man played by Johnny Hallyday, exits a train and enters a sleepy French town. He encounters retired poetry instructor M. Manesquier while he waits for the day when he will loot the local bank (Jean Rochefort). Each seeking to lead the other's life, the two men develop a peculiar bond as they travel a path less traveled.
