Miguel de Cervantes, a poet, dramatist, and occasional actor from the sixteenth century, has been taken into custody by the Spanish Inquisition, along with his manservant. As far as the Inquisition is concerned, they put on a show that is offensive. The other inmates in the vast dungeon where Cervantes and his manservant have been thrown band together to stage a mock trial against them in order to steal or burn their goods. Cervantes has a manuscript he's trying to protect, so he and the other inmates put on a play to defend themselves, complete with costumes, make-up, and dialogue from the Don Quixote novel.
