Longtime Companion
Longtime Companion chronicles the lives of a small group of friends beginning in 1981, when the condition was first mentioned in the New York Times. Initially dubbed "Gay-Related-Immune-Disorder," we observe as the sickness wreaks havoc on our characters' life. Jumping between Manhattan and Fire Island, vignettes take us from the it-couldn't-happen-to-me attitude of the disease's early years to the invasive influence the sickness has had on every aspect of our lives now. The film's title is derived from the New York Times' inability during this time period to recognise homosexual relationships in their obituary section. Rather than that, they were referred to as the deceased's "Longtime Companions."
