Stanley Ford lives an idyllic bachelor's existence in the woods. He is a widely syndicated cartoonist whose Bash Brannigan series provides him with a luxurious mansion and a full-time valet, Charles. When he awakens the next morning after attending a friend's stag party the night before, he discovers that he has been married to the very gorgeous woman who popped out of the cake-and who doesn't speak a word of English to boot! Contrary to his early complaints, he eventually comes to like married life and even alters his cartoon persona from a great spy to a husband who is little stressed out by his family.
