A new Iranian immigrant, Behrani, decides to buy a home in California, hoping to renovate it, resell it, and make enough money to send his son to university there. It's not Kathy's house, but it's still hers legally. She has nowhere to go after losing her home in an unjust legal battle with the county. – She hires a lawyer and develops a friendship with a police officer in order to reclaim her home. They are in a moral quandary because neither Kathy nor Behrani has broken the law.
