Unrest and revolution break out in France in the not too distant future. When his lady friend Caroline leaves and declares she will get involved with the first fool she sees, Philippe Muphand, a right-wing politician, is about to seize power. Serge Laine, a professor and the prize-winning author of "Le voyage qui ne finit pas," is the idiot. He is on his way to the train station to buy tickets for a trip to Barcelona, where he and his wife will take a second honeymoon and he will give a talk at the university. When Caroline seduces Serge, he quickly forsakes his wife, children, work, and integrity in favor of Caroline, Jack London's romanticism, and murder.
