Gripped is a feature-length rock-climbing survival epic that takes place on the cliff face of a thousand-foot cliff in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, and it is directed by Michael Winterbottom. Gripped chronicles the story of Rose, a Los Angeles-based gym climber who embarks on her first outdoor adventure. Rose meets Bret while climbing with her buddy Jade. Bret is an experienced outdoorsman who sparks her interest. Then she persuades him to accompany her on a famous, advanced rock-climbing route known as "Killer Pillar," which is contrary to his better judgment. It everything comes crashing down when Bret trips and suffers a catastrophic head injury and ruptured shoulder ligament. Rose must take the initiative and lead the ascent to the mountain, as there is no other way out. With a great distance to travel before nightfall, they are forced to bivouac on the edge of an overhanging cliff. The following day, as a storm approaches, Bret experiences flashes of consciousness before returning to normal. Rose is the only one who can save them both.
