In the last months of World War II, 14-year-old Seita and his sis Setsuko are orphaned when their mommy is killed during an air raid in Kobe, Japan. After a falling out with their auntie, they relocate into a deserted bomb shelter. Without any making it through relatives and their emergency situation distributions depleted, Seita and Setsuko struggle to survive.
