The small town of Grandview, Illinois, has a life that is similar to that of any other city or town. Tim Pearson, who is about to graduate from high school, wants to study oceanography in Florida. When he meets Michelle "Mike" Cody, he is immediately drawn to her. She is the owner of the local Demolition Derby. Ernie "Slam" Webster is one of the derby drivers whose wife is cheating on him and wants to be with Mike later. Tim is smitten by Mike, and a major love triangle is about to emerge.
