Ivan Sen (Mystery Road), an Australian filmmaker, has just released his latest feature film, GOLDSTONE, and it has already won multiple awards. It is a complex and stylish crime thriller that explores themes of racism, human trafficking, police corruption, corporate malfeasance, and the trampling of the rights of indigenous people. In the midst of his search for a missing person, the troubled indigenous detective Jay Swan (Aaron Pedersen, Mystery Road) arrives in the sleepy mining town of Goldstone, where he is pulled over by the local police officer Josh (Alex Russell, CBS's "S.W.A.T."). Josh charges Swan with driving under the influence of alcohol. When gunfire is poured into the room that Jay is staying in at the motel, it becomes abundantly evident that a more systemic issue is at hand. Jay and Josh discover a web of crime and corruption as they work to overcome their mutual mistrust of one another. This web leads directly to the town's cold-blooded mayor (Jacki Weaver, who was nominated for two Academy Awards for her role in Silver Linings Playbook) and its smarmy gold mine director (David Wenham, Lord of the Rings).
