A robot envoy is dispatched to the surface of the world with the request that humanity learn to coexist peacefully. She was supposed to go to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, but instead she winds up in Amman, Jordan, during the Black September riots in 1970. Sullivan, a British journalist, rushes to her rescue after a bombing and offers her refuge in his hotel room. She was found wandering after the explosion and did not have any of her documents on her person. However, there she reveals to him that she is a robot, and that she is an ambassador of peace from another planet. Even though he is unsure whether or not to accept her account, he finds it appealing that she has such an odd perspective on the world. In a series of dialogues that are both immensely insightful and entertaining, they discuss various aspects of the human condition.
