Empire of Passion

A young man pursues an older woman. He is envious of her husband and plans to have him murdered. They strangle him and dump his body down a well one night after he has had a large amount of sake and has gone to bed. To allay suspicions, she lies that her spouse has gone to work in Tokyo. The wife and her lover visit each other in secret for three years. Finally, suspicions become so strong that people start gossiping. To add insult to injury, her husband's spirit begins to haunt her, and the law is summoned to investigate her husband's absence.
