Eddie Ogden is both Eddie Ogden's dad's favorite thing and the only thing the Groundhogs have going for them as a baseball player. Then Eddie finds out that he likes and is good at cooking food. It doesn't matter that he likes making food for his brother Andy or his father and classmates, they only pretend to cook. So he arranges for him and two friends to enroll in Home Economics by accident. There is a national cooking competition for school kids. Only Eddie and Bridget Simons are going to compete. Ma finds out, and to his surprise, the teacher, who has won the competition before, is also supportive, even though she used to be a winner.
