Sometimes the desert can be a punishing environment. Daytime temperatures climb over the century mark, making it hot enough to stop a man in his tracks, and nighttime temperatures plummet to levels that would freeze a man to death if he tried to stay alive. Wild animals, both feral and lethal, can be found in abundance there. If you want to get lost, this is not the place for you. Todd and Josh, as well as their buddies, have unfortunately done just that. The gang of teenagers and the couple of hitchhikers they've picked up are on their way to a ski trip when they take a wrong turn and find themselves hundreds of miles away from any sign of civilized life. Snakes, scorpions, coyotes, spiders, and everything else that lives in the desert are supposed to be more scared of people than we are of them. This is often true. However, in this particular instance, there is solid reason for these individuals to be more than merely terrified. There's one wild species in this specific region of the California desert that doesn't seem to be afraid of humans. A tremendously huge and dangerous beast with a ravenous appetite for human flesh. It has a lot of power. It's a primitive experience. It's a never-ending cycle. It's also quite hungry.
