Crime + Punishment in Suburbia

Roseanne is the target of fellow student Vincent's romantic feelings while they are both in school. During the night, she has to deal with her terrible family life, which includes the fact that her mother, Maggie, is unfaithful to her drunken husband, Fred. When it is discovered that Maggie has been having an affair, Fred takes his rage out on Roseanne, who is his stepdaughter. Maggie plots her retribution with the aid of her lover, Jimmy, but Vincent may be the one to help her construct a new life in this contemporary fable largely inspired on Fyodor Dostoyevsky's "Crime and Punishment."
