2053 is the year. Space exploration has been privatized, but with increasing exploration comes rising accident rates. As a result, the world's insurance companies teamed together to form CR, or Cosmic Rescue. It is the responsibility of CR to save victims of interstallar accidents and to clean away harmful debris flying components left over from earlier disasters that threaten other space spacecraft. Nanjou Satoshi leads CR Shift Division 89 as captain. They spend their days removing rubble with Eguchi Ryo, his faithful mechanic, and Sawada Azuma, the hot-headed rookie. But then one day, Azuma intercepts an emergency signal from a young girl. The crew of #89 rushes to the site, the ship vanishes from their radar, and they are shortly released go by CR. But what happened to the ship and the young girl? Was that all Azuma's imagination? Did the ship vanish? Or was it hidden? The answers may cost them more than just their careers.
