When Mary Elizabeth Steppe, also known as Lola, moves from New York with her mother and two younger twin sisters to a suburb in New Jersey called Dellwood, she feels like her cultural and entertaining world has ended. When Lola goes to school, she becomes close friends with the unpopular Ella, who is also a big fan of Lola's favorite rock band, Sidarthur. Carla Santini, who is the most popular girl in school, disagrees with Lola about who should play the lead role in an adaptation of Pygmalion and who should be in charge of their mates. When the last Sidarthur concert sells out, Lola and Ella plan to go to New York and buy tickets from scalpers. But the girls get into trouble when they try to help the lead singer, who is also Lola's idol. This changes their lives forever.
