Being a teen isn't easy, but sixteen-year-old Mike has it particularly tough. Faintville, a little hamlet in Canada's lumber industry, is where he lives with his mother, a constant nag. He lacks everything: a father figure, close friends, and even a go-to dinner. Basically, all he wants is to vanish completely from the face of the planet. Mike commits suicide one day after writing his own obituary. He is shocked to discover that he has woken up in a local hospital, much to his dismay. A brain tumor the size of a plum is discovered during a routine inspection by the doctors. Mike can't believe his good fortune, so he refuses to get surgery that could save his life. Even though he had previously thought of death as both beautiful and terrifying, Mike now sees it in a new light. After all, he's not the only one who gets it.
