City of the Sun

Up to 50% of the world's manganese, a vital metal all over the world, was once mined in Chiatura, Georgia. It now looks like a post-apocalyptic ghost town. Mzis qalaqi depicts some of the remaining residents. Zurab, a music teacher, dismantles dilapidated concrete structures and sells the iron girders to supplement his income. Archil continues to work in the mine, but his true passion is the local amateur theater group. Despite being malnourished, two young female athletes train valiantly for the upcoming Olympic Games.
