Chuck Berry: Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll

1986, in St. Louis. With Robert Cray, Joey Spampinato, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, and long-time Chuck Berry pianist Johnnie Johnson as members of his pickup band for Chuck Berry's 60th birthday, Keith Richards celebrates the occasion. Berry plays his great rock tunes on stage with the likes of Etta James, Linda Ronstadt, and Julian Lennon in attendance. On show are his abilities as a writer, lyricist, singer, musician, and performer. Bo Diddley, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bruce Springstein, the Everly Brothers, and Roy Orbison are among those who speak about him in behind-the-scenes interviews, as do other musicians and entertainers. An unexpected bonus for Berry is the opportunity to practice. The documentary includes archival video from the early 1950s as well as a duet with John Lennon to complete this portrait of a master.
