In order to record the next episode of her true crime podcast, which is about the disappearance of a childhood friend from 20 years ago, Alex McPherson travels back to the little village in Pennsylvania where she used to spend her summers as a teenager. However, after forming a partnership with the editor of the local newspaper, who only grudgingly agrees to assist Alex in retracing the girl's final steps, Alex not only discovers the shocking truth behind the girl's disappearance, but she also uncovers a murder that occurred decades ago as well as a cover-up for the crime.
