Sydney's plans for a tropical Christmas are derailed when she assists an unaccompanied minor in relocating to Chicago to be with her father Jonathan, a gorgeous widower and investigative reporter. Due to a flight shortage, Sydney is stranded in Chicago for several days – a city she once called home as a tiny child – and tags along with Jonathan, his daughter, and their exuberantly merry family until she can secure a connecting flight. Jonathan strikes a deal with her: he will assist her in tracing the story of how her late parents met, and she will assist him in writing the perfect Christmas story and maintaining his job, and sparks fly between them along the way.
