In 1818, independent young Fanny Brawne is getting more and more interested in the handsome but distant poet John Keats, who lives next door to her family's friends, the Dilkes. After reading a book of his poetry, she finds herself even more drawn to the quiet Keats. Even though he agrees to teach her about poetry, Keats cannot act on his feelings for Fanny because, as a struggling poet, he can't afford to support a wife.
