The English game warden George Adamson and his wife, Joy, take care of three orphaned lion cubs in a national park in Kenya. Elsa, the smallest of the three lions, stays with the couple after the two bigger ones are sent to a zoo in the Netherlands. When Elsa is blamed for causing an elephant stampede in a nearby village, the head warden, John Kendall, orders that the young lion either be trained to live in the wilds of the Serengeti or be sent to a zoo.
