Nicholas Cutler is a brilliant but self-destructive novelist who was once famous but is now stuck teaching English to students at a working class high school who are addicted to their iPhones. After creating a trashy zombie fiction, he manages to re-capture the interest of publishers, and they are willing to give him a second shot as long as he can demonstrate that he has cleaned up his act. However, what was supposed to be the happiest week of his life devolves into turmoil, and he is ultimately compelled to put the needs of others ahead of his own egotistical aspirations.
