Dhaanu, a poor villager who is deeply in debt, returns to the village one night in stealth. He's hiding from a moneylender to whom he owes a sizable sum. He decides to sell his donkey, Bhasmasur, in the city because he is pressed up against the wall. Tipu, Dhaanu's son, who longs to attend the city's annual fair, has a special bond with Bhasmasur, the donkey. Tipu, in his childish ways, tries unsuccessfully to prevent Bhasmasur from being sold. Dhaanu decides to bring Tipu with him to the city as well. The three of them set out on foot from Rajasthan's hinterlands to the city. Several events occur along the way that bring the father and son closer together. Will Dhaanu be able to maintain this bond?
