Benediction
Siegfried Sassoon(1886–1967) was a soldier and poet who was awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry on the Western Front and is most known for his indignant and compassionate poetry about the First World War, which earned him public and critical acclaim. Sassoon spoke about the misery and cruelty of trench warfare while mocking generals, politicians, and churchmen for their incompetence and unthinking support of the war, avoiding the sentimentality and jingoism of many war poets.
