Bang the Drum Slowly
The story of a pro baseball team in New York and two of its players. Henry Wiggen is the team's star pitcher, and Bruce Pearson is a regular, every-day catcher who is not the team's star but is a friend to all of his teammates. During the off-season, Bruce learns that he is terminally ill, and Henry, his only true friend, vows to be there for him during his final season with the team. Throughout the season, Henry and his teammates try to deal with Bruce's impending illness while also trying to make his final year memorable.
