In 1950, in the middle of the devastation caused by the Korean War, Sergeant Süleyman comes upon a young girl who is half-frozen and is alone with no sign of her parents or anyone who may assist her. This little girl, who was frantic, terrified, and on the edge of passing away, won the heart of Süleyman, who was willing to risk his own life to save her by smuggling her into his army post and away from potential danger. Due to the fact that Süleyman did not know her name and was unable to converse with her, he gave her the name Ayla in honor of the moon that shone over them on the tragic night that they first met. Ayla gives an unusual joy to the Turkish brigade even though they are in the middle of a war, and the two create an instant and inseparable friendship almost immediately after meeting each other.
