It's hard to understand how structures, which take up a fixed amount of space, can make us feel transcendent. How can chapels become places to think? How can walls give you so much freedom? Christoph Schaub, the film's director, was inspired by his childhood memories to visit churches that are both ancient and futuristic. He also finds works of art that take him to the sky and all the way down to the bottom of the ocean. To figure out what's going on in the world, he works with architects Peter Zumthor, Peter Märkli and lvaro Siza Vieira, as well as artists James Turrell and Cristina Iglesias, as well as drummer Sergé "Jojo" Mayer. The great cinematography makes this quiet search into a multi-sensory experience.
