An Angel at My Table

This play, based on the autobiography of New Zealand writer Janet Frame, depicts the author at various stages of her life. Frame, who suffers from mental and emotional problems, grows up in a poor home and goes through a series of catastrophes as a child, including the loss of two of her siblings. Frame, played by Kerry Fox as an adult, achieves renown for her writing while still in a mental institution, and her accomplishment allows her to move forward with her life.
