Based on chapters 60-343 of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga by Kazuki Takahashi, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters is an anime television series produced by Nihon Ad Systems and Studio Gallop. It is the second anime adaptation of the manga, following the anime made by Toei Animation, continuing the adaptation of the manga from where that series left off. The anime focuses around Yugi Mutou, a card duelist who fights a variety of opponents in a game known as Duel Monsters. The series initially aired on TV Tokyo in Japan from April 2000 to September2004, spanning 224 episodes. A Yu-Gi-Oh! adaptation in English, produced by 4Kids Entertainment, aired on Kids' WB in North America from September 2001 to June 2006 under the title Yu-Gi-Oh!. The series was also released in numerous countries outside of Japan. 4Kids commissioned a Yu-Gi-Oh! animated feature based on the success of the series. The Movie: Pyramid of Light and a miniseries titled Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monsters are upcoming. Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal are the three primary spin-off anime series created by the series.
