Wild America is a documentary television series about North America's wild animals and lands. Marty Stouffer had produced numerous full-length documentaries by the mid-1970s. He addressed the programming managers at Public Broadcasting Service about producing a half-hour wildlife show, the first of its kind to focus solely on North American flora and animals. Marty Stouffer's show Wild America was acquired by PBS in 1982. The show went on to become one of PBS' most popular, thanks to its uncompromising presentation of nature and significant use of cinematography techniques including slow motion and close-ups. PBS paid Stouffer $135,000 per show. From 1982 through 1994, the show was on the air. The series is no longer on PBS, although reruns may be found on commercial television in many parts of the country. Marty Stouffer and his brothers, Mark and Marshall, were the subject of a full-length feature film called Wild America, released by Warner Brothers in 1997.
