After playing a three-year game of cat and mouse with the FBI, con artist, forger, and robber Neal Caffrey is finally taken into custody. He has only a few months left to serve out a sentence of four years, but he breaks out of prison to hunt for his girlfriend, Kate. Caffrey is located and taken back to prison by the FBI agent Peter Burke, who was responsible for his initial arrest. This time, Caffrey suggests striking a deal with the FBI as part of a work-release initiative. After some initial reluctance, Burke finally gives his assent, and thus begins this unorthodox arrangement in which Caffrey assists Burke in the investigation and prosecution of white collar offenders.
